Landscape Lighting Maintenance Ideas

Maintenance Suggestions For Landscape Lighting This Spring

Here are maintenance procedures you should follow to benefit your landscape lighting.

Temperatures have begun to rise outside, and the days now last longer. This is when it’s time to start getting more enjoyment from your outdoor landscape. One area of your landscape that you will end up using is your landscape lighting. While days will be longer, lights will still be a useful part of your landscape, and winter can take its toll on them over time. It helps if you perform a few maintenance tasks to get your lights back in top form for the spring. Here are maintenance procedures you should follow to benefit your landscape lighting.

Get Your Landscape Lighting Cleaned

Some people may be aware of the damage that salt can cause to their cars. The same can be said for landscape lighting, which is why you should take some time to clean all of the salt from your lights. This helps keep scratches from happening and also minimizes the chances of erosion.

Salt also keeps your lights from illuminating your yard as well as they otherwise would. Because of this, a clean cloth should be used with a little bit of soap to gently wash away salt and let your lights shine brightly.

All the while, be sure to get rid of pieces of debris, like leaves, from your lights as well. Obstructions like these can only serve to lower the quality of lighting you get.

Don’t Mow Over Your Landscape Lighting

With spring finally here, you can start mowing the lawn once again. Just be careful that you don’t harm your landscape lighting while you’re getting mowing done. Lighting fixtures can be quite durable, but it’s best not to test that durability against a lawn mower if you can avoid it. Colliding with your lighting fixtures can cause damage both to the lights and your lawn mower.

Be Careful When Planning

Spring may be the perfect time to reinvent your landscape design. The same design that worked during winter isn’t necessarily ideal for the spring season. For that reason, reposition your landscape lighting fixtures to help showcase the features of your yard that you want to highlight. It can be helpful to bring a professional landscaping company in for some input on where your lighting fixtures should go.
