When you’re picking a landscape contractor, you want to be sure they’re cut out for the job. These are just a few of the questions you should ask your landscape contractor to see if they’re the best for your job.

Do you know what my vision is?

Questions to Ask your Landscape Contractor

These are just a few of the questions you should ask your landscape contractor to see if they’re the best for your job.

Your landscape contractor should talk to you about what vision you have for your landscape. How do you want your yard to look? How much money do you plan on spending? How much maintenance are you prepared to handle?

Your wants and needs should be firmly established before you contract with with a landscape contractor. Once they know what you want, they’ll devise a plan on how to realize your vision by creating a scaled drawing of your future yard. This way, you’ll know what the end product will look like, and you will know how you are going to make your vision a reality.

How long do you think the project will take?

All home projects take time, and unexpected events can come up, so it can be hard to know for sure how long a project will take. However, it is Maryland law that a contractor has a start and completion date IN their contract. That way the project cannot drag out and the client has some idea when to expect completion.  Also let your landscape contractor know what deadlines you have so that they can accommodate for any setbacks that might stop your project from getting completed on time.

Where do you source your trees, shrubs, and plants?

You aren’t required to have native species, but you want to be sure your landscape contractor uses plants that are grown locally. This is because they are more likely to thrive since they will have already acclimated to the conditions in your area.

How much ongoing maintenance will there be?

You need to work out a yard maintenance plan with your landscape contractor. Make sure that you both understand how much time will be going into the maintenance before the design is installed. Don’t hesitate to ask questions regarding replacement for dead plants and any other maintenance concerns.
